Kenneth Acha, President

Kenneth Acha is president of Shaping Destiny, a ministry which he founded in 2005. Acha was born in Cameroon (Africa) where at the age of nine years, he lost his father who was the sole provider for the family. With this loss, Acha's family of six (five siblings and mother) plunged into abject poverty and depended on the equivalent of Welfare. Because of this misfortune and the fact that all schools in Cameroon (even grade level schools) charge tuition, Acha dropped out of grade school twice for lack of money to pay, money that was the equivalent ten U.S. dollars. By God's grace, Acha was able to complete high school on a "Needy but Intelligent" scholarship from the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon. In 1998, he graduated from Presbyterian High School Batibo as valedictorian and student leader (Senior Prefect I), winning prizes for excellence in leadership. Acha moved to the U.S. in December 2000 with the help of an uncle. He arrived in New York in December where it was freezing and Acha was dressed in his shirt. Even though surprised by the snow and happy to see it for the first time, the cold was almost unbearable. After taking the Greyhound bus from New York to Houston which took more than three days on the bus, Acha arrived Houston where he knew no one and had no money left. By God's grace, Acha settled in Houston and moved on to attend Houston Community college (HCC). From HCC, attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Acha was at Baylor only for a semester and immediately applied an was admitted into Rice University in Houston. He moved to Rice and while in his first year and on the dean's list, Acha applied and was accepted into Texas A&M college of Medicine as one of only two students accepted to start medical school without completing an undergraduate degree. The college of Medicine would award Acha a Bachelor's degree by the time he is ready to start his third year of medical school (if he is interested). Inspired by his faith in Christ has dedicated himself to turn the plight that he went through into a positive experience by making sure that other needy children get the help he couldn't get. children. I have also spent two summers working as a counselor at Camp
of the Hills, which is a Christian camp for inner-city children from
Texas and parts of Oklahoma. Because of my desire to help

Jeffrey Keese, teacher

I heard of Shaping Destiny through the news report and immediately felt a calling from God to do anything I could to help. My wife (Lauren) and I have always had a passion for helping those in need as well as a love for mission work. We have spent time serving in Mexico, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore and hope to one day visit our friends in Africa. Working with children has been a goal of ours even before we met. We both worked summers at Camp of the Hills, a youth camp for under-privileged children from Texas and Oklahoma. I spent three years working at the Boys and Girls club in College Station and loved it so much I decided to pursue a career in teaching. Lauren also wants to be a teacher and will graduate from A&M with her degree in Kinesiology in December of 2006. The Lord has been most gracious to us and we can't help giving back to those in need.

"Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Be imitators of God therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God." Ephesians 4:32, 5:1-2

"We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers. We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ."
1 Thessalonians 1:2-3.

I received a BA in History from Texas A&M in August of 2005 and am currently working towards a Master of Education degree at A&M. This fall, I will be teaching 8th grade US History in Magnolia, Texas. I married my wife, Lauren Keese, on August 20th, 2005

Vu Dang, Medical Student, treasurer

Vu Dang was born in Vietnam and he immigrated to America at the age of
11.  Deeply touched from seeing his mother's life saved by medical
doctors, he began exploring the world of medicine at 15 by attending
DeBakey High School for Health Professions.  Since then, he has
continued to be amazed by what medicine has to offer, via working in
various hospitals, research labs, and life experiences.  After
graduating from Stanford University with a BS in Biology, he further
pursued the medical path by being a student here at Texas A&M College of
Medicine.  This is where he met Kenneth Acha and became involved with
Shaping Destiny.  With this organization, Vu feels that he has the
opportunity to help others less fortunate than he, and in doing so, is
able to share God's love in the world.
